Where I live we have 2 scrap iron places within a 50 mile radius of my place. They buy scrap iron and cut it or crush it to ship back east. Both places let you come in and look around for what ever you want and if you see a part or some thing you can use, they will sell it to you @ 10 cents a pound. brass and aluminum cost 15 cents a pound If they get an old tractor thats not cut up,they will keep it whole for a few weeks in case someone wants it. Or even farm machinery. Trouble is, they pay more money for scrap if the owner cuts it up in smaller pieces. But I have bought magnetos for less then 40 cents each and carburetors for the same. You never know whats going to be there the day you go.
