Many of the building codes now require any such garage area to be separated from the rest of the house by gypsum drywall- sometimes 5/8 thick fire rated. Runs up the cost and complicates future access to plumbing that might be above that area. But the vehicle is not stored in a really cold area- a real bonus when starting out in cold weather. NEVER do welding inside your house- 2 of them in my community burned- started by welding in the basement. Lots of positives and lots of negatives for basement garage. Good luck and enjoy your new house.
