Just a couple of weeks ago my son and I spent the afternoon touring the barns and shop of a local restorer who rebuilds steam engines. He had about six of them in various states of remanufacture at the time we were there. I asked him about the incident. He firmly believes that there is only one explanation. OPERATOR ERROR! He says there's no way if properly handled that that steamer would blow. As far as the insurance, yeah, probably many companies are running away from these shows as fast as they can. Others are probably reassessing the risks, and will err on the very high side with their rates. Unfortunately this will put a damper on many steam shows.
