How to straighten front axle on Case/Ingersoll 448

I just bought a 448 Case lawn tractor that has one side of the front axle tweaked backwards a few degrees. Any suggestions on how to get this straightened back out? I'm not sure if this axle is cast iron or steel, so am not sure if I need to use lots of heat and let it cool slowly or what. I do have to disassemble the tractor to fix a couple other things as well, so the axle will most likely be taken off.
