The seat shouldn't have been welded to the upper end of the pipe, it should have a cross pin at the end of the pipe and a bracket on the seat bucket that pivots over this cross pin allowing you to turn the seat over towards the rear of the tractor so you could stand on the lower platform steps and run the tractor standing up. This also allowed the seat to be turned over if the tractor was left out in the elements and not collect rain or snow, etc. Must be your's has been "Mickey Moused" up. Take the cap screws out of the mounting bracket on the transmission/rear end cover removing the entire seat assembly and you will see how the big vertical spring bolt is secured to the seat frame pipe. Don't you have any pictures of a W6 or something to help you figure out this tractor?? Is this the first tractor you've ever had?

I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
