One is 540rpm and has the coarse spline, the other is 1000rpm and has a fine spline. This is just to make sure you don't try to use the wrong one. Always keep the unused one capped to avoid injury. AC used a lever on some of their models to switch back and forth. This had a higher potential for error and if you had it in 1000rpm on a 540rpm implement, it would sound like a helicopter taking off for a short while before the parts started to fly off...
