I always take my bushhog off the back and lift one side with either the front end loader or a 3pt. picker, tipping it up against the side of the barn and then bracing it with care so it can't move. Then I can really get at the blades and check the main lugnut, etc. and even hammer out dents in the sides if necessary. You can then really see what you are doing. When you sharpen it, sharpen it with the use you have in mind. If you are going to use it in really rough stuff I would not over-sharpen it keeping the grinder tilted at the original angle already defined by the tip of the blade. If you over sharpen it, it'll dull quicker. Of course this is different if you are using it for finishing or hay only, where there are no rocks or heavy brush. (I call my hog my "rock-finder") This is just my experience but I have done quite a lot with these rigs and find this to work. Hope it helps.
