You got that right about the garden fresh veggies. I built raised beds to be easy on my back and knees. Also easier to mulch with composting done between the beds. If building raised beds is beyond you, how about getting some help? My 90 yr old mother found it to be the ticket. No reason to quit gardening, unless you've stopped eating. This talk of dry summers surprised me. Last year was the first year we never had to water at all. Rains came in right on schedule. But one thing that sure helps is good soil, and that takes some time, at least if you start out with what we have up here. Top soil's about an inch deep.
