Well I bought my first tri-axle trailer a few months back and so far I'm not impressed as it has no a load sweet spot, meaning no matter where the load is placed on the trailer a tri-axle can and will apply reverse torque load on the hitch when on uneven terrain. It works much like a see-saw does. Knowing this if you load tongue heavy and using a surge brake then most surge brake controllers will be overloaded as they have a 2000lb to 3000lb load rating. How much reverse torque? The trailer is rated at 18,000lbs. I loaded 3700lbs centered just forward of center axle. I used a 1/4" chain to temporary keep the coupler tied down to move the trailer before I had the pintle hitch modified to fit my hitch stem. On uneven terrain it snapped that 1/4" chain as it applied upward hitch pressure or reverse torque. A typical 1/4" chain has approx. 3500lb load strength. This resulted in my first bumper ding on my new F350. A tandum axle atleast has a sweet spot where the trailer pulls very well on uneven ground and has no reverse hitch torque. T_Bone
