I bought a Farmall MD last February and just now getting it ready to paint. I used the MD for cutting hay with the haybine and baled some hay with it last summer. Seems to run great. I do need to work on the M&W hand clutch yet. Need to find parts for it. As for how durable they are, we had a neighbor when I was a kid on the farm that had a MD and he would fill our silo every year. I just loved listening to the sound of that diesel. His sons still have that tractor and as far as I know it still has the original head. They farmed approx. 600 or more acres and the MD and a WD9 were there two work horses for many years. The main thing is how much care you give to your equipment. As an old friend would say...some people can tear up an iron wedge!! And from the looks of some of the old tractors I see, and bought, that is very close to the truth! I have a friend that has a MD and he changed the head to glow plugs from a Farmall 460 and eliminated all the gas starting apparatus but he also told me if the original gas starting apparatus is OK it is the best to leave it because it starts easer on gas in cold weather. (I have pictures of my MD in the Tractor Photos.) Good Luck.
