If the coolant system is leak free with a pressure cap then oxygen ingress and therefore corrosion is reduced.
Most cooling systems are not airtight or get alot of heating/cooling cycles. So the use of demineralised or distilled water with a corrosion inhibiter or non poisonous propylene glycol antifreeze is recommended.
