First thing I would check, is if the transmission had enough fluid, and if it has one, whether the oil filter is clogged, needing replacement. Is there a override valve, providing a neutral? My JD 140 has one, a pair valves on the top of the transmission, actuated by a threaded knob on the deck - once in a while, the threaded knob will actuate the valves, and instant neutral. Also look for sheared pins in the drive shaft at the transmission, if all that's good, next stop may be the dealer.
