Lynn. You are right to think about what dealers are near you. My part of the country is Ford and Deere people. However I just got a great deal on a IH 606. The Case-IH dealership is about 45 miles away but the price of the tractor was worth the drive for parts. How much land do you have. You can mow 10 acres with a 25hp 8-N, but than you have to deal with gas (which vaper is more combustable and goes bad when left sitting) and most riding lawnmowers have that much horsepower. Something between 35 and 60hp would be great. The more land you have, the higher the horse power. My brother in law farms and has a 75hp Deere. Great tractor, but too big for my needs. I have to admit that I don't like front end loaders. They can be dangerous and cut down on the turning circle. But if you have fifteen horse stables, they can be a great help in cleaning muck. If you have a small operation, you may get away with a rear bucket. You could go to tractor dealerships and talk with the mechanics. Ask them which ones they think are most dependable and the easiest to work on. Just don't limit yourself to one brand or series becouse you may miss a great deal.
