I have been using a Canon S110 since last Christmas for both personal and school use without any complaints. I've taken around 900 images in that year and a half. It provides decent resolution and options; I get very good life from the battery. In addition it is comparably small and encased in a relatively tough stainless steel housing. I think there are several other comparable options now, but I would have to say that convenience of carry is important because you will be more likely to have the camera when you want to take a picture. Hope this helps, J.P.
