Randi, One of the first things you need to find out is what dealerships are around you. If you have to haul the john deere 60 miles for repairs when a ford dealership is 15 miles away, this information should be placed in your thinking. John Deere, Ford, International Harvister all make good tractors. Some years and models are better than others, but you would have to speak to someone more knowlegable than I for that information. For mowing 16 acers, anything over 30hp will do fine, but if you want to plow, you may want to go higher. A 55hp will do anything you may need. Talk to the tractor repair people and ask the what they would recomend and what they would avoid. You can buy used from the dealership, you will pay more, but they will have gone over the tractor made some repairs and hopefully replaced all the filters and fluids (make them do it and don't forget the transmission and hydrolic screens and filters). Buying one parked at the side of the road like I did is more risky, but the price can be half as much. Whatever you buy, put it in the barn and grease it before all operations, as a large machine mechanic friend of mine says, "grease is cheaper and eaiser to put in than parts". Have fun.
