I would not recommend taking your pump apart yourself. Pumps have mirror like finishes inside that must be kept extra clean and the pump has to be caliabrated with special equipment to factory specs. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Phone book is a good place to start and ask others with diesel powered machines where they get theirs fixed. Sounds like it could be an injector problem. The same shop will do a pattern spray test and check the pop off pressure. A way to determine which injector might be in question is to loosen the fuel line at each injector, one at a time, about half a turn a listen for any change or skip. Go down the line one at a time, and backoff so the fuel shoots out around the tube nut instead of popping thru the injector. You are looking for a skip or change, like disconnecting spark plug wires, to determine if the injector is functioning properly.
