Matthew, I have a Duramax/Allison 5-speed and I tow a 30 ft Airstream-not a real heavy load. I do not get excessive shifting in the tow/haul mode, but if I did, I would just allow it to shift as it wants to. If you think the thing is dingus, take it to your dealer and they can reprogram the software for you. That could be the problem. Also, I have the 411 rearend. The 373 wasn't available in 2001 when I bought mine. In steep terrain, I let the tow mode do it's thing, and I get better mileage and even running temps. Question: are you using the cruise control on fairly level terrain? It can induce excessive downshifting because of it's sensitivity to small speed changes.
