REPLACING THE CLUTCH ON THE 574 IS EASY,IF YOU HAVE ANY MECHANICAL EXPERIANCE AND A NICE SMOOTH CONCRETE FLOOR,A GOOD FLOOR JACK,AND SOME BASIC TOOLS.YOU ALSO NEED SOME GOOD BLOCKING AND JACK STANDS. TAKE OFF THE HOOD PANELS,DISCONNECT THE BATTERY,REMOVE ALL OIL LINES,LINKAGES,ETC.,THAT CONNECT BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE BELLHOUSING.SUPPORT THE ENGINE JUST AHEAD OF THE BELLHOUSING(I RAISE THE FRONT AND REST IT ON WOOD BLOCKING SUCH AS 4X6S 3 FT WIDE. LEAVE THE TIRES RESTING ON THE GROUND:IT TAKES TRIAL AND ERROR TO GET THE CORRECT HEIGHT.)DRIVE WOODEN WEDGES ABOVE THE FRONT AXLE TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM TIPPING SIDE TO SIDE.BLOCK THE FRONT TIRES TO KEEP THEM FROM ROLLING.PUT A GOOD STRONG FLOORJACK UNDER THE REAR SECTION JUST BEHIND THE BELLHOUSING. UNBOLT THE BELLHOUSING BOLTS.HAVE A HELPER ON THE OPOSITE SIDE HELP YOU ROLL THE THE REAR SECTION BACK:YOU WILL HAVE TO PRY AND WIGGLE A BIT TO SEPERATE THE 2 HALVES.VERY IMPORTANT:PAY ATTENTION ON YOUR ALIGNMENT OF THE 2 HALVES AS YOU SEPERATE THEM-IT MAKES GOING TOGETHER EASY IF KEEP EVERY THING EVEN.ALSO SAFTY FIRST-IT IS ALL VERY HEAVY. WHEN YOU PUT THE THE NEW CLUTCH IN,HANG THE PRESSURE PLATE ON THE PTO DRIVE SPLINES AND PUT THE CLUTCH DISC ON THE TRANSMISSION SHAFT SPLINE.YOU AND YOUR HELPER THEN ROLL IT BACK TOGETHER-THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO ALIGN IS THE TRANY SHAFT INTO THE PILOT BEARING.AFTER YOU BOLT UP THE BELLHOUSING,THEN REACH UP THRU THE ACCESS HOLE AND BOLT THE PRESSURE PLATE TO THE FLYWHEEL.THEN FINISH PUTTING EVERY THING ELSE BACK ON.DON T FORGET TO ADJUST CLUTCH FREEPLAY. ALSO, WHEN YOU HAVE IT APART,MAKE SURE YOUR PTO SPLINES ARE NOT WORN BADLY.THE SHAFT IS NOT HARD TO REPLACE EITHER. GOOD LUCK.

When Push Comes to Shove - by Dave Patterson. When I was a “kid” (still am to a deree) about two I guess, my parents couldn’t find me one day. They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
