I guess most guys would think that the vinyl cut decals look better than the mylar-backed ones because there is no (or at least very little) of anything between or around the letters. Never used them myself, I find them a bit pricey. If you are careful and have a good sharp pair of scissors or a very sharp exacto knife (new blade and a good backing to cut on) you can trim off a lot of the excess on the mylar-backed ones, not all of it but at least some. When I've done that I've rounded the corners a bit too which keeps things in place better. Never could figure out why or how the Windex behind the mylar types works so well (allowing you to move the decal) but it does.
