Hi, Folks. Here's my 2 cents. In 1991, I was operating a D9H 'dozer, 1975 vintage, which had just over 45,000 logged hours on it. By that time it had had a complete engine replacement, a transmission overhaul and, due to a roll-over, one track frame and final drive replaced. It wasnt the best D9 I ever operated but it wasn't bad. One day I mentioned to one of the truck drivers working for the same company the number of hours it had done. He said he couldn't imagine 45,000 hours. I said that if he got into his Mack truck and drove it at 100 kilometres per hour for 45,000 hours he would have done 4 1/2 million kilometres. He replied that that was a LOT of kilometres. ( His actual reply was not quite that printable.) I also suggested that he think about the fact that his Mack would be running on mostly sealed roads where the poor old D9 was running on very definitely NO ROADS and asked if he thought that his Mack truck would do it. He didn't think the Mack would do it on no roads but might make it with a lot of loving care on sealed roads. I'd reckon there would be an awful lot of tractors and machines out there with stories of longevity to tell, if only their owners and/or drivers would speak up for them. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
