I've bought some things on e-bay, including tractor parts. I've also sold a few things. The selling experienced convinced me that having friends run up auction prices is common practice. I studied the successful auctions before I listed mine and was careful to list my items for best effect; I have good feedback, included pictures, accept PayPal, and charge actual shipping charges and no handling. Still, my items sold for a lot less than identical items listed around the same time. It is still possible to get good deals and find desirable items on ebay, but just like the other post says, set your limit and bid.
