a few days ago abc new did a short segment about how ag tractors make large amounts of air pollution,it had been disscused further down on this board, well this is an interesting subject since just today i took my ford 8000 over to a friends house to borrow his old corn chopper that we use for chopping brush, well when i pulled out of my driveway there is a slight uphill for a ways, and it takes some real grunt to get a 12,000 lb tractor moving up hill, so of course like always there is a good amount of black smoke for a few seconds and then it clears up once everything gets up to speed, well i went up to the top of the road and stopped at the stop sign, when a lady driving a ford taurus, dressed like she had just left the office pulls up alonside me, steps out of here car and starts yelling about all the smoke and how i am destroying the environment by using old equipment, saying that i shouldnt be so cheap and go and spend the money on a new tractor, stating that they are much have much better emmisions and that there is no reason to be using such an old tractor, even went as far as to tell me that i was just an unresponsible kid who knew nothing about eco systems(i am 20 by the way)and that someday i would learn about the gifts god gave us on this wonderfull planet and a whole bunch of other stuff. i didnt have a whole lot to respond to this, she realy wasnt much worth arguing with, and when i started to explain that i didnt do anywheres near enough farming to pay for a new tractor, she simply put her hand up, said that she didnt want to hear it, and to just be glad she wasnt going to call the cops on me for not having a licence plate on my tractor! well after she left a few of the people who had come out of there houses to see all the commotion came over and comented on what a nutcase she was, and from what they said she has harrased people before over alleged animal cruelty and such. so i take it she must have seen the thing on ABC news the other night about the farm tractors causing pollution and decided she was going to do her part to "help" the cause.

It increased the farm productivity and, in general, made life easier because more work could be done with this 'mechanical beast'. My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
