About the 1030, the bottom end of the engine is somewhat different than the 70 series but not an issue. As for the rest of the drive train I'd rate as about as rugged as any thing built in it's day. The hydralics were a problem because they were low volume and a little dated in design. This problem stayed with the Case line until the 90 series with the closed center system. The pto problems with the 70 series were caused by the way the engineers designed the oil feed for the transmission, pto, brakes and steering. Using a 70 series to power high power moving pto equipement would try anyones patience. Pushing the clutch pedal or sometimes using the power shift would cause a pulse as the transmission control valve diverted oil and make the pto drop for an instant. You wouldn't see it but you could feel it and most likly any shear pins in you chopper, sheller, combine ... would too. I've dealt with many irate farmers on service calls over this problem and there was never a good fix.
