I just bought a Huskee (made by MTD - sold at TSC). 21hp, 46" cut, hydrostatic-like drive, manual pto for $1398. MTD makes numerous brands found at Wal-Mart, Lowes, Menards (here in Northern IN). This is my second MTD, first one lasted 4 years without anything major (one spindle lost a bearing, a change of belts, blades), then the transmission stopped working correctly - wouldn't stay in gear. New tranmission costs $350, so opted for a all new mower. When you look at the various MTD brands, you will eventually see that they have different feature/price points - independent of the brand - Huskee, Bolens, Yard-Man, Troy-built. I used to have a JD318 that cost 4 times the price. I don't think it gave me 4 times the value, in that it didn't last 16 years without problems. Hope this helps.
