Brian, I would recommend one of the AYP Craftsman tractors (917.xxx series), but must get the bigger ones, garden tractor, to any beef to them. I know a lot of people on this web site will give me grief for my recommendation, but I can't argue with my experience with these machines. I bought a 22.5 with a 50" deck in 1995 for around $3000, now same tractor is priced much less, my father in law bought a JD 318 the same year for almost $8000. He mows less than 1 acre of smooth lawn, I mow 3 acres much rougher lawn. He gave me a hard time that year told me it wouldn't hold up, junk, no good, etc. but here I am in 2003 no major problems. Trashed one spindel on a rock, broke a couple of blades, and rebuilt the carb last spring. Other than that only routine maintenance. His JD has the same service record but I am still $5000 to the good and I cut a lot more grass. I also have a smaller Simplicity and a Bolens that I am restoring and the Craftsman isn't built to quality, but for the money my experience has been quite good. It is true you get what you pay for but if you are only cutting grass on a "lawn" most any machine will work if taken care of. Thanks, Roon

I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
