I would say that it depends on the price of the tractor. If it is a $300 tractor than 100%. But if it is a $4000 tractor than I would say that a 25% deposit would make them come back. Plus you have to lay out some ground rules if you want the tractor gone in a certain time period. Take their down payment and say that if you haven't heard from them in 4 to 5 weeks then the tractor goes back on the market. (It would be best to have it in writing but I hate turning tractor deals into a legal exercise.) I would question anyone who wants to leave a $100 deposit on a tractor worth less than a $1000. Do they not have the money? If so, than they can't afford the tractor, move on. Some people just get nervous giving a 100% deposit because you could sell the tractor to someone else and they are out the money. This is just my opinion but I guess that is what you are looking for.
