Hook the wire to the battery cable at the selnoid or starter. Also generally you will need to rev up the tractor engine in order to kick the alternator off. If you don't rev up the engine the alternator will turn but not charge. Easy way to tell if it is charging is to place a screwdriver blade to the back center of the alternator. If it is charging the blade will be held on to the alternator like a magnet. hope this helps
