You might look for an engine from a Zetor or Belarus tractor. The Belarus drive line was less than perfect but either makers make very reliable fuel efficent engines. Finding a Belarus with a dead trans or diff may be quite easy.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
