Just wanted to let you guys know that I got an email from someone offering to buy my tractor from an internet ad I placed 2 years ago. The email writer said that he was from Tansania and wanted to write me a certified check for the tractor. All he wanted was my name, address, and home phone. Some unnamed person in the US that owed him money would mail me the check. I pushed about who was the US contact was, and the email writer told me that he would give me $5500 (asking price in the ad was $1200) and I could pay the freight company. Uhh Huh. This is an old scam, usually it involves millions of dollars and bank account numbers. But I think this minor scale scam is to get info for identity theft. I looked up the email writer's name and found it in a Candian obituary from jan 03. Maybe everyone knows this by now, but just in case.
