Where to begin Super H restoration?

We had this old H w/Super kit overhauled in 1977...drove it home and used it on the elevator that fall. Winter I bought a 2520 John Deere...we got busy and let the H sit until the next fall, motor was stuck. Still sitting there...wondering what is the first thing I should do to begin? Take the head off?
