Have you checked the clutches? There is a clutch that drives each side. They work very similar to a clutch in a manual transmission. If the clutch pads are worn excessively or the internal tension springs are broken or worn out the clutch pads will slip. If you look between each clutch you will find the throwout bearings attached to hte linkage from the stearing levers. These bearings will push against the clutch fingers to release the clutch when you pull back on the stearing levers. When you release the stearing levers the throw-out bearings will release the clutch fingers and the clutch pads will contact the clutch plate to drive the swather forward. The pads should be about 1/4" to 3/8" thick. One other possibility. If the clutch plate or pads are oil or grease impregnated they will slip also. This can happen if you overgrease and some gets onto the pads or plates. Hope this helps.
