As a muffler shop, they had no business working on the engine. Look over the receipt to see if your wife signed for no parts wanted. If not, tell them you want the old parts returned, even if it means the old muffler, or you will contact the state bureau of automotive repair or similar organization. And they also vandalized the vehicle by removing parts without authorization(the sticker).I'm sure your wife did not tell then to remove it. Looks like the guy did it just to get the filter. You can also threaten to take them to small claims court. Believe me, they don't want to spend the day there!
