John W., Asking for opinions on batteries may be like asking about motor oil -- everybody has some different idea -which each of us will defend to the death. My favorite now is an Optima, sealed 6V, rated at 950 CCA and about 54aH. Have one in my H, works like charm, and doesn't corrode the battery box. You can pick them up on eBay for around 70 bucks. More important, though, is why that one battery went dead so fast. A '46 M might have a cutout (a two pole device mounted on the generator), which, if it gets stuck, can drain any battery very rapidly. You also might have a 4 position light switch which gives you a way to reduce the charge going to the battery in lieu of a voltage regulator (the 3 or 4 pole box mounted on the generator, or up under the fuel tank on an M). I'd investigate those things first as their malfunction might result in your sending yet a third battery into the slaughter.
