The #2 regulator wire goes to the BAT stud on the alternator rear, this is where the regulator senses system voltage. The #1 regulator wire goes to 12Volt power that is live only when the ignition switch is on. If you hook it to the same ignition switch terminal that feeds the coil, you need a Diode to block or small light bulb to restrict return flow of power to the ignition switch and coil. My personal preference is to use a small light bulb,as replacements are readily avalible and it serves as a charge indicator. Another method of feeding power to the #1 exciter wire is to use aan oil pressure switch wired to feed 12 volts to the alternator when the engine is running and has oil pressure. Have you converted the tractors to negative ground? This must be done to use an alternator.
