It depends on what you a growing - most plants need more than 2-3's to grow in (most pots are bigger) so the plant will start to grow but probably never mature - Underground rock like that also causes water to flow away so it will be much drier than other area Also it is as you have found out prone to erosion. Grasses might do okay. or more likely a ground cover like clover or ivy to hold the ground in place. later
