1. Diesel oil in gas engines is A-OK, as long as the required specs (SA, SF, SJ, whatever) are met. 2. Oldtimers weren't fond of multi-viscosity oils, but time has proven that they're safe in ALL engines (in the proper viscosity range). 3. As long as you change regularly--and frequently--hi-detergent oils (Such as Rotella) are probably better for your engine anyway. 4. Main thing is to use a GOOD oil--any major brand, they're all the same with the exception of one or another additive--and not just whatever the supermarket has on sale, AND to keep it changed regularly. Years back, my dad had a '62 International Travelall wagon with a 304 V8 that he ran nothing but Havoline hi-detergent oil in (SAE 30 in summer, SAE 20 in the winter). He changed oil EVERY 2,000 miles...and, 240,000 miles later, that ol' Binder was STILL running strong...and never had the pan or a head off it! Seeing is believing, and I was convinced! Oh, yeah...in case I didn't make my case well enough...remember to keep the oil changed regularly and frequently!
