They are the same tractor except for the drive clutch and PTO clutch. The drive clutch on the 154 is on the transmission instead of on the flywheel. They had to put a brake on the transmission input shaft to stop it from spinning when you put it in gear. The PTO clutch on the 154 is a multiplate cam engaged unit. Both clutches need regular adjustment and maintenance.

The 184 has the drive clutch on the flywheel where it belongs and it has an electric PTO clutch. They also crank 18 horsepower out of the C60 engine. This is the same engine used in the old Farmall Cub. The 184 is the latest model. The model production sequence is 154- 15HP, 185- 18HP and 184- 18HP.

These are great little tractors. Some have 3-Point hitches. However, standard 3-PT 540RPM PTO driven equipment are not compatible. The Cub PTO rotates the opposite direction at engine RPM. Another good option to have is a creeper attachment which gives 6 forward and 2 reverse speeds.

Price varies with season and location. 154- $1000-1700, 184- $2000-3000 and 185- $1500-2000. Condition should be considered in the price. The drive clutch, PTO clutch and the fiberglass grille cowling are pricey replacement items. The grille cowling may seem cosmetic, but if damaged will cause the radiator to frequently become plugged with grass while mowing. These cost about $350.
