Yes I heard of it. It works on the same principle as the automatic tire balancer sold for this purpose.
The ball does not move in the tire once you get up to speed. Also the golf ball is made of a harder material than the tire so any wear would be to tire not the ball.
Get the tire balancer made of metal and for this purpose and you will be better off.
