It may not be as bad as you think. If all its done is run a splitter it probably hasn't even gotten up to temperature. If the engine is just loafing along on a cold day you may be seeing some condensation mixed with some soot and unburned fuel. Try taking the tractor out and working it hard for an hour or so and it will probably clean up some. This is not to say that the engine may not need some attention,but I wouldn't jump right into an overhaul. Deere and a number of aftermarket sources make pistons and rings for your R. Start saving up your pennies, to fix it right ain't going to be cheap.Maybe you can get your dad to spring for a set of pistons and rings under the Christmas tree for you.(tractor rent to run the splitter)
