Hey Les, I'm an old vet who agrees with you... As far as "old" is concerned, I'm not trying to stir the pot... but, I believe each of us has to choose, every morning when we get out of bed, what we will do for ourselves. Some choose to lay around the house and "watch Oprah" while others go out each day and fight the good fight. I spent 20 years (yeah, I was a lifer) in the armed forces, and I couldn't tell you the number of my friends and colleagues who failed to take advantage of their benefits when they left the service. Then, long after the fact, I would hear "man, I should've done ...." Just as trying to deal with the various agencies in the military was difficult, dealing with the VA can be frustrating, but it can be done! I'm proud to say that I have gone back to school (after all these years) and I'm getting ever closer to earning my degree, ...all courtesy of the Dept of Veteran's Affairs, who sends me a check each and every month!!! Sometimes, I get a bit crosswise with the bureaucracy, but, with perseverence, I get what I need. As far as the 25 million, it's a real shame that it can't go to the families of those who've paid the ultimate price to assure the security of our nation... but we all know that will never happen. We can at least let the troops know how much we appreciate their efforts!!!

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
