cub cadet

I have a cubcadet that I have no clue as to what year it is. It has no number markings whatsoever.
It has a 7hp kohler engine. i read an article in a magazine that refered to one like it as a 'prototype'.is this true? The only sereal number is the one on the motor. I just can't beleive it would be a prototype because prototypes usually are plauged with problems,but this one is the oldest and most relable piece of equipment on the farm.
