Many years ago, my father in law was cutting wood in the bush. The chain saw slipped and off goes the little finger on the left hand. Everyone ran away and he had to shout at them to come back and help him get to the hospital, or he would have bled to death. Another time he cut his leg with the chain saw, went to the hospital and got fixed up, and went back to cut more wood. Later, he was putting a new fan belt on his Ford N, and just as he was wrapping the belt around the generator pulley, his 6 year old son climbed up on the tractor and hit the starter switch with his foot. His hand took a spin around the genny pulley, his middle finger was caught between belt and pulley and cut off the tip clean and quick. His son told the teacher at school the next day "I cut off my dad's finger last night." My wife (his sister) had to tell him to stop talking about that. He used to play the fiddle but couldn't anymore. Not enough fingers.
