IF I recall correctly, they DID NOT use a distributor cap with irregularly spaced nipples. What was used was a distributor rotor with an unusually wide outer terminal that allowed the spark to get to the terminal (or nipple) in the cap even though the centerline of the rotor was not not directly aligned with the terminal centerline. Email me direct, if you want. I can look up a Standard Ignition or NAPA part number for the rotor you need. There is a specific way the distributor must be timed to the engine, and you indicate you have checked that out. I have an original Wisconsin manual (if I can find it) that shows the correct installation position for the distributor.
