With today's technology, the gas engine should last as long as a diesel with proper maintenance - so longevity is no longer that much of a benefit to me with diesel. Plus the fact that the diesel costs around $5000 more to purchase initially (let's see gas is $1.50 per gallon so 5000/1.5= 3333 gallons of gas you can buy!). My repair bill on gas vehicles this year was around $1000, my brother's repair bill on his diesel came out to around $3500. I used to be sold on the diesel pickups, but not anymore. PS - he only has 125,000 on his 98 Cummins. And the neighbors Powerstroke is just plain loud and diesel fumes stink. Of course this is just my $0.02 worth, buy whatever amount of gas or diesel you can with it...
