To test for a blown head gasket, get ahold of a cooling system pressure tester. Connect the tester to the radiator filler, but don't pressurize the system. Start the engine up; if the head gasket is blown, the cooling system pressure will rapidly rise within a few seconds of startup. (Shut the engine off as soon as you see the pressure rise to avoid blowing something up.)
