2 products used in tandem virtually eliminates them. Tempo SC Ultra: When used properly, an application will last about a month to 6 weeks in dry weather, and 2 to 3 weeks in damp weather. 8ml treats 1000 sq ft of yard. Most farm supply/chemical houses will have it. It's safe around pets and kids as long as you keep them off until it dries. It's used in restaurants, nursing homes, etc. It is harmful to fish. PDF data sheet here: www.bugpage.com/pdf/labeltemposc.pdf Since we've started using that, our yard is like a barrier. Once you step out of it, you are eaten alive, but once back in, you are fine. Spraying trees, etc also helps. Mosquito dunks: http://www.pestproducts.com/mosquito_dunks.htm Stop them before they fly. These go in standing water near your place. They kill the larvae. 1 dunk is effective for 100 sq ft of standing water. Break off a chunk to put in the tires that are holding water behind the garage, etc. These last about 30 days and are very effective. I have a puddle in front of my garage SOMETIMES. Only when it rains. I put a dunk here too. When the puddle is gone, the dunk dries up and is ready for the next rain. It doesn't lose its effectiveness. With these 2 products, you can again enjoy the great outdoors.
