Cracked Farmall H transmission final drive housin

The left rear axle shifts forward and backward on an H tractor I recently purchased. My best guess, before tearing it down, is that the final bull gear bearing left loose and dropped parts between the gear and housing thus causing the cracked housing. This tractor also has an M & W hand clutch which may or may not be a factor. I have had some successful experiences welding cast but have never attempted IH or Farmall cast. Does anyone have any successful weld jobs on this type of repair.
