Frank,
Mine ran a lot better after I adjusted the valves, put new plug wires on, plugs, coil, condenser, points,new carb kit by the dealer, but the most important thing I did was put a shut off valve on the fuel line. Evidently the carb would not completely shut off the flow of gas and it would smoke and was very hard to start. Mine is also very cold blooded. I never move it until the temperature gauge is in the normal operating range. Happy with it now.
