Clint,I was a mechanic at 2 dealerships in the 1970.s.I was around during the early production years of the 100 plus horsepower Ford tractors.Ford had a lot of "growing pains" with those early tractors but each year they managed to improve them.The first 8000 and 9000 tractors did not have a hydraulic filtration system "no filters'and also brake wear problems.The metal fragments from the brake wear were not caught by a filter and ruined pumps,bearing's and bushing's throughout the hydraulic system and transmisson.Also the tranny's had bronze bushing's and would wear out easily. A recall solved many of these problems and many were adressed on later models and later series of tractors "8600,9600,8700,9700 and the TW series".I attended many training schools in Memphis and other locations while i worked at these dealerships.I was able to learn a lot in these schools and put it to use for several years on these tractors.I would have made a career out of it but here in the south the pay for labor was not enough.I was lucky enough to join the boilermaker union and made that my career.I have continued to work on tractors in my spare time.I own a 1950 model B Allis Chalmers and a 1959 model 861 Ford that i am presently restoring.I love old tractors and enjoy working on them.I will be 49 in March and hope to work on them many more years.
