Jason it would help if you knew enough to get your facts right before posting. They say "engage your brain before opening mouth". Now while anyone can try to help and be wrong, they should learn something from their mistakes. You simply spout: "You all know that an empty oxygen cylinder weighs less than a filled cylinder, but, did you know you can make it weigh even less if you pressurize it to the max with helium?" Don't be silly, the density of helium, compared to air is about 13%-14% ie. it's specific gravity compared to air where a value of 1.0 is assigned to air. Now if you compress this to the same as a NORMAL oxygen cylinder the density will increase to above 100% of air Remember, if you double the pressure you halve the volume at constant temperature (Boyle's Law, if my memory serves me correctly). Therefore the contents of a fully compressed helium cylinder would weigh more than an empty one of air - near enough the same vapour density as oxygen for this purpose(empty means at atmospheric pressure) Do you recall the vapour density as being half the molecular weight. Oxygen would have a vapour density of 16 (half of 32 as oxygen is a diatomic gas). Helium is an odd-ball as one of the 'Noble' gases it's vapor density is 2 (ie half its atomic weight, as it is a monatomic gas). Perhaps you had been told about those tiny oxygen bottles supplied with graft brazing kits. Might be(or might not be) true for those - try working it out! Regards, RAB

Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
